Mechrevo S1 Pro 14″ Core i5 8265U + MX250 Laptop For $699

Mechrevo S1 Pro 14″ Core i5 8265U + MX250 Laptop For $699

This one looks interesting, a 14″ laptop with the specs of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 2019 with an even faster CPU, same GPU and a better price as It’s selling for $699. The Mechorevo isn’t a brand I’ve reviewed before, but for the price, it’s definitely an interesting alternative to the Mi Notebook Pro I might order to review.

Powered by the Whiskey Lake U 8265U

It’s around 10% faster than the Core i5 8250U. The laptop has a metal build, large touchpad, weight of 1.5kilos and comes with 8GB of DDR4 RAM. The GPU is dedicated the Nvidia MX250 with 2GB of RAM just like the RedmiBook 14 I reviewed.

A 1080p IPS display, which okay bezels that looks to be covered with glass again similar to the Mi Notebook Pro. And the keyboard is backlit, the Mechrevo S1 Pro has 512GB of M.2 SATA3 storage and space for upgrades with a 2.5″ HDD/SSD bay. For ports, we have Gigabit LAN, HDMI, USB 3.1 Type C, USB 3.0 x 2 and even a 4-in-1 card reader. The cooling system is using two fans and what looks like two copper transfer pipes at least, maybe 3.

What do you think? Is this one worth a review? Any interest?

The $699 price can be found here at Gearbest, you have to use coupon GBNBS1PRO01 in order to get that price as seen below:

  1. Looks good for the price, which probably means the battery will not hold charge for long.

  2. I wish banggood tested out their laptop/tablets before they sent them out, I got a faulty sent to me, and I had zero help from Banggood for over 2 months now, glad that I atleast used Paypal for the purchase as I opened a dispute. Hopefully I get my money back.

  3. Please review this laptop but also the other version MECHREVO S1 Notebook 14.0 inch with a Core i7-8565U and with DDR4 + MX250.
The version you are talking about Chris dont use DDR4, but instead DDR3L.

    • Trouble is that one is about $200 more for that faster CPU and DDR4. I’ll try this one first if I get it.

  4. Interesting… seems like a lot of bang for the buck if the components live up to the promise of the marketing…

  5. It looks like a nice laptop. I am curious about the keyboard and build quality. Also, the screen calibration would be interesting to know. Even with a Datacolor SpyderX Pro, I still have trouble calibrating the screen on my Chuwi Aerobook. This has me wary of any future Chinese laptop purchases. Also, I have sent Chuwi a couple of emails with hardware issues and they have not responded to any of them. You definitely take on a lot of risk to save money with these things.

    • I think the screen would be one weakness. Don’t see it having a better gamut than say the Mi Notebook Pro Aerobook or Lappook Pro. Calibration is always normally with a blue tint the whites I find on all the import tech I buy. Which is why, like yourself, I have my Spyder Pro 5 to set all my displays the same. I didn’t have too much of an issue with my Aerobook (Typing on it now)

But yes the risk we take saving in the long run sometimes isn’t worth it. But the spec of this one does seem rather interesting if everything else checks out of course. Keyboard, Thermals and fan noise.

  6. IMO in the year 2019 an hdd is a dealbreaker on anything smaller than 15.6″. At this price im sure most people would rather have a m.2 slot and pay more for a ssd instead

    • I agree but looks like it has 256GB M.2 SSD and a 2.5″ bay for adding more. Good as I could put my 1TB Samsung 850 Evo in there.

  7. Well,
Xiaomi delivers a consistent performance and product quality in their core products from phone – tablet – laptop which gets worser in smart home yeelight components.

After all your Jumper Ezbook 2 . 3 . Pro …. adventures Xiaomi was a rock compared to Jumper, onda, teclast evn though cams and software or miui was a bit disappointing if I remember right cause you went back to Samsung due to bad video or sound quality.

700$ is a number for such a device … just no one seems to know. Could be 700$ just for nice pics chinese companies can always do quite good.

But if you feel good to have a look just go.
I am not the reference, don’t know anything about nvidia or i5 peformance and just rely in my purchases on your thoughts about such devices.
I would never buy it just based on specs + pdf but it needs a volunteer to find out if xiaomi has a new competitor in his pond.

    • Thanks to the thing, on paper and the press images it looks great. But with the Chinese, you never know. Which is why someone like myself takes a punt and risks it. The Core i5 8265U is a decent quad-core with the MX250 if it’s the 25W very means can even game fine. Ads in videos editing as well and 3D work so not just for gaming.

Yes, the EZbook 3 Pro was a winner (Fist 3-4 versions) then just downhill. With phones due to cameras and bugs etc I went back to Samsung. Now have a Huawei P30 Pro which is Chinese at least, decent phone for my needs. I’ve even gone back to Samsung for tablets, the Galaxy S5E is a great media device with that amazing screen and crazy good speakers for something so thin.

  8. what about warranty, how is covered that….afterall it’s china…..

    • If you have bad luck (Often I do) It needs to be returned to China for repairs or replacement, so it’s a good month without the laptop. And a huge hassle. Normally with brands such as Xiaomi, you can’t go wrong. And Gearbest normally inspects the laptops before they are sent out reducing the risk of issues. Still, buy local if you’re really worried about that.

  9. Looks good for the price. interested to see how it performs as it mentions efficient cooling with dual fans as one of it’s selling point. I have the asus zenbook ux430un and that thing gets very hot (even hot to touch) during gaming + it throttles, even with undervolt as it only has one heatpipe and 1 fan shared between the mx150 and cpu.

    • Yes it’s advertised as twin cooling pipes and fans. And this is the second gen so I hope it has good cooling. One fan and pipe doesn’t always mean it will be poor. Look at the RedmiBook 14 for example. One fan (Big one) and a larger heat transfer pipe it never goes over 76 degrees C gaming, but the fan is loud. If I get this one I’ll definitely keep an eye on the fan noise and undervolt it also. Something the RedmiBook 14 wouldn’t let me do.

  10. Not for that price Chris. If I add all taxes, I would prefer buying an A brand in Europe, maybe not 512GB. Bought a Zenbook 14 for € 825. Very happy with that one really small and still 14″ screen. So safe your money. Chinese are not that cheap when it comes to same processor etc. Just my opinion

    • It’s about 619 euros and shouldn’t have tax unless using DHL. This is the same price I paid for the RedmiBook 14 but offers more and has a web camera. Nothing here in Spain with Whiskey Lake U and Nvidia MX250 for that price. I’ll think on it.

  11. Spec is very interesting, but Mechrevo? Never heard of them that’s why we need your review Chris to gauge if it’s any good! If it gets the Chris approval or not 🙂 Also what is that shipment guarantee, you have to pay this for it to arrive? Why don’t Gearbest call it shipping like everyone else?

    • I might but check it out. Also, the shipment guarantee is just insurance I think.
