Chuwi Hi12 Specs – First Chinese 3:2 Tablet with SP3 Screen

Chuwi Hi12 Specs – First Chinese 3:2 Tablet with SP3 Screen

Chuwi has released the full specs on the Hi12, and some more photos of the unit. It’s shaping up to be a very interesting tablet, metal unibody, full sized USB ports, keyboard dock and that screen. It will be released first with Windows 10 and later as a dual boot with Windows and Android.

Previously thought to have a 1920 x 1200 screen, the Hi12 will, in fact have a Surface Pro 3 2160 x 1440 3:2 ratio screen in it. So it would seem the old Surface Pro 3 screen isn’t exclusive  to Microsoft anymore so we might start seeing a more tablets with this great screen in the future.

Updated 12th Jan : Here are some official images of the tablet, Chuwi is calling it a combination of iPad Pro and Surface Pro 4. The first release model will be Windows 10, and later on, they will have a Dual OS release of the tablet. Still no pics or info on the keyboard dock.

Being a larger 12″ 2-in-1 tablet, Chuwi will have a lot more room now to offer a full sized keyboard and larger touchpad, which should improve the typing experience over the smaller Vi10 and Hi10 keyboard docks. But no photo’s of the Hi12 dock yet. But judging from the images it will dock like the Hi10’s keyboard offering more than just one fixed angle.

Gearbest has it listed on alert. ETA is the 20th approximately.

The Chuwi Hi12 full spec:

  • Tablet Model: CHUWI Hi12
  • Screen Size: 12.0 Inch

I hope Chuwi plan to release a Vi12 or Hi12 Pro version with the X5 Z8500 or even better a Skylake Core M3-6Y30. Now that would be one hell of a tablet.

Now I want to see a 2160 x 1440 12″ Core M3, Wireless AC touting tablet from one of the manufacturers this year. Things are only getting better as the Shenzhen tech companies continue to push hard with new models. Oh, by the way, Happy new year!

  1. is the chuwi hi12 back a metal body or metallic plastic? The gray version is on preoder on gearbest. Looks metallic plastic to me!

  2. £164 ? Plus £10 shipping? what about extra charges?

  3. If I buy the Windows version, will I then be able to update it to dualboot later?

  4. is there any possibility to see the stylus version with different cpu?

  5. Dear friends ,
Kindly advice me regarding a 12 inch budget tablet , a laptop replacement with a good stylus and a multitaking capabilities. A competitor of surface pro.
Some of worries of chuwi hi12 are processor overheat and lack of professional reviews.
Your fruitful inputs is highly appreciated…,

  6. Forgot to mention the weight. So far it seems to be 850-900 grams .. At least by the specifications in some sites.

  7. Anybody know what the stylus technology is on the model with digitizer?

  8. The geekbuying it will have the basic after the spring festival.
The gear have it for preorder at 250$ but I will wait for the stylus version.

  9. Sounds interesting at least we are going to have a serious competition with surface pro.
What I am really interested in is a remix os ( preferably 12 inch ) that upports a stylus to perform office functions on the go.
Your fruitful coments is highly appreciated.

  10. Interesting , at least there would be a serious competition to surface pro.
    My question is :
Is it possible to find a remix cube that supports a stylus ? I am really interested in a budget android tablet ( preferably a 12 inch tablet ) that supports a stylus and perform office group functionality. Your comments are highly appreciated.

    • There are a couple of 10″ Win/Android tablets that have styluses, Chuwi’s EIA10 Plus and an upcoming Vido W10D. EIA10 Plus is already on sale and has Z3736, stylus comes with the tablet and has a silo to slide into, 1280 x 800 resolution. W10D pre-sale says that the stylus isn’t included, nor what tech they’re using. Vido have used Hanvon tech before (as an aside, I’ve a Pipo W5 with Hanvon stylus and it’s far better than Asus Vivotab 8 Wacom). The Vido’s resolution is 1920 x 1200. I’ve not seen reviews of either, so I don’t know which OS their styluses work with, incidentally or not both have 2Gb/32Gb RAM/ROM so I assume they’re 32-bit OSs. I saw the Vido listed on everbuying.com.

  11. I like the idea of a low-cost 12.2″ tablet, but i still think that at this resolution they should have better gone with x5 8500.

  12. Around 230€ in gearbest (basic version). What are the differences between the basic and stylus version? Actually, I was decided to buy the teclast x98 plus, but this chuwi looks very good. I like its screen format and connectivity.(3:2 and usb, full size)

    • I was at the exact same situation. Already ordered the X98 Plus Dual Boot. I can still cancel but the extra 350 grams on the chuwi are tough.. I think I’ll stay with the X98 Plus.

  13. They should invert the camera: 5MP Front Camera, 2MP Back Camera

  14. Is the quality equal to teclasts?

  15. IMO, Cube took a step backwards, and with plans to extend the Hi12 Cherry Trail platform, so we won’t see a Core Mx, even a low end M3, in the near future from Cube. Only Cube, Onda, and Teclast among the Shenzen tableteers released Core-M 510YC models. Cube’s bet on Cherry Trail is a price point play: lowest price retina screen in 12″, keep prices high until there is another retina screen 12″ from Shenzen, then push the price down based on price elasticity. This leaves the door open for Teclast or Onda to be have the “Cube i7” equivalent… the first M3 tablet from Shenzen. I hope it’s Teclast, based on build quality… and the hope that it will have LTE.

    • You mean chuwi instead of cube?

      • Yes, thanks. Corrected Comment.

IMO, Chuwi took a step backwards, and plans to extend the Hi12 Cherry Trail platform, so we won’t see a Core Mx, even a low end M3, in the near future from Chuwi (just as we didn’t see a Core-M 5Y10C from Chuwi). Only Cube, Onda, and Teclast among the Shenzen tableteers released Core-M 510YC models. Cube’s bet on Cherry Trail is a price point play: be first to launch a retina screen in 12″, keep prices high until there is another retina screen 12″ from Shenzen, then push the price down based on price elasticity. This leaves the door open for Teclast, Cube, or Onda to launch the first M3 tablet from Shenzen. I hope it’s Teclast, based on build quality… and the hope that it will have 3G and 4G/LTE. I’d love to see Teclast use the X2 Pro platform, with its M.2 SSD and M.2 modem sockets, move to an M3 or M5 CPU.

        • Chuwi’’s bet on Cherry Trail….

        • 12 inch 2160*1440 isn’t a retina screen. It’s only 216.34 PPI.

          • You’re right. Needs another 100 PPI.

          • No, but it’s still a nice screen.

          • Actually it can be classified as a retina screen according to Apple’s definition. Calculating with a 15 inch viewing distance, as Apple does with their iPads, it results in 58.7 PPD (pixels per degree). The threshold for a Retina Display starts at a value of 57 PPD.

    • typo. should be “Core-M 5Y10C” in first sentence.

  16. Damn. We don’t need any more cherry trail tablets. Just bring the Core M3 already or the next generation of atoms, that would be interesting to see. Or even only core M. We already saw what cherry trail can do and we are not impressed.

    • You’re right, we don’t the current X5 Z8000’s run too hot. Hopefully, the Z8X50’s will address this. Cube have already announced a Skylake model for this month. But I’m with you, I now want to see a 12″ Surface Pro 3 screen Core M3-6Y30 with 128GB SSD. And make sure it’s got wireless AC and Wacom stylus support.

  17. 1st Happy 2016 to all and particularly to Chris, and his tremendus job !!

410$ for a surface pro 3 like tablet seems far too expensive when you can get them on second hand bellow this price… don’t you think ?

    • Well $289 USD on Geekbuying, I imagine it would sell for around $260-280. I think it’s okay considering the screen. But we still have to factor in the keyboard cost which might be another $50 to $60.

      • 289$ is a much better deal, you are right, eventough the lack ov clamshell keyboard and stylus digitizer is a pain.

I guess making a good stylus might be difficult as there are very few tabletts comming with it…

  18. Wonderful, but the whole point of the Surface Pro size and aspect ratio is full productivity, i.e. including stylus productivity. This doesn’t seem to come with a digitizer, which is a huge disappointment.

I love the idea of a SP clone with a real clamshell keyboard. The ability to turn it into a real laptop would make it more valuable than the SP to me.

    Happy New Year!

    • This is just the first model with the screen, so I do expect later on in the year to see stylus models and hopefully Teclast or Cube has a Skylake Core M with the 3:2 screen.

  19. would love to see it in black (can’t stand white bezel) and skylake core m3 or broadwell core m… SSD too would be super!
