Chuwi To Release 8GB SurBook Pro Tablet Soon (Updated)

Update #3: It’s the Surbook Pro, I posted on this months ago but we heard no more on it from Chuwi. It has 12″ Surface Pro 3 screen. 8GB of RAM and yes it has an M.2 SSD hatch on the back. It’s all covered in this hands-on video of the prototype. It’s going to be an Indiegogo crowdfunded tablet. Thanks, adskan for jogging my memory Chuwi had us believe it was a laptop at first.

Update #2. It’s a tablet, 12″ two USB 3.0 ports and type-c. 8GB of RAM and Gemini Lake. So the Surbook Pro 2-in-1? Surbook 2? I hope it has a fully laminated 3:2 screen but at 12″ there is high chance it will be, Surface Pro or maybe the sharp IPS 12.6 2880 x 1920? I’ll post more once known. But the first spoiler said up to 1TB storage, so it must be configurable up to 1TB? I highly doubt a tablet would have an M.2 SSD hatch, but it would be great to have and a first.

Update: The below tweet pretty much confirms it is the Lapbook Pro, as it’s a laptop. But not the Lapbook SE.

Chuwi recently posted this tweet below. 8GB of RAM, Gemini Lake with up to 1TB SSD. Meaning it will have a SATA3 M.2 slot for SSD upgrades and finally the much wanted 8GB of DDR4 RAM. Could this finally be the Lapbook Pro 14″ slim bezel laptop with type-c charging? Or the Lapbook SE with 8GB of RAM (Currently the best Gemini Lake laptop I’ve reviewed)

Another thought is maybe a tablet? The Surbook Pro 2 still hasn’t seen the light of day, now it could be on the way with an upgradable SSD slot? That seems unlikely they would release a tablet with an SSD hatch. Maybe a new Hi13 model with that Surface Book 3000 x 2000 screen. This something I would like to see again is this great screen in more tech from China but as a fully laminated panel.

Another guess of mine is the 2880 x 1920 sharp panel, it’s coming in the new Teclast X6 and often they share the same ODM’s. What do you think it is? Lapbook Se with 8GB finally? Either way this is good news.

  1. they stick with 4GB because licensing for Windows is cheaper with only that. Going 8GB can add as much as $100US judging from many other Chinese windows devices. Don’t mind paying that or maybe they cann figure out a way to add modular ram since they make the same consideration for disk space but provide a hatch for expansion.

  2. Do you think that the N4100 it’s an step-foward? I think that a Core M (the classic or the new one) would be much better. I have the original Surbook and I don’t know if I could notice a better performance between the N3450 and the N4100. Also, the screen could support more % of the sRGB

  3. This tablet looks so good, the sad thing is it’s produced in China, but Chuwi is now focused on foreign market, so we can’t buy it in China. By the way, I come from China.:D

  4. looks like the external port offer is good
    Chuwi should have learned how to choose a reliable touch screen
    now I guess it’s all matter of battery size and keyboard cover quality (let’s hope for a backlit cover like the Alldocube
    and let’s hope for a quick time to market as well
    .
    By the way I just put my hands on my girlfrined bran new MacBookAir13 2018…definitely the perfect travel mate, except for the PRICE

    • I don’t think the keyboard is backlit by the looks of it. If the battery is around 10,000mAh or above we should be able to get around 8 hours out of it with the Gemini Lake N4100.

      Yes that MacBook air is nice I looked at one recently but the price is insane for what it is. I hope the Chinese clone it and also the new iPads. In a year or two, they might get their hands on the exact same screen and build a Windows 10 tablet out of it? Hope so.

  5. laminated screen with a fast ssd and this will be a instant upgrade from my current surbook 12.3, larger battery would be a nice bonus as well.

    • A larger battery is a must there. WOuld also love to see a Core M3-8100Y version with 8GB or even the Core M3-7Y30

      • i kinda expected these kind of tablet to have less than average battery life since a good portion of the real estate is catered for the kickstand. well, this time round they will have ~1mm more to work with by going OGS, lets hope they make the battery bigger and not the tablet slimmer.

        agree that they should have used at minimum the 7y30 if they were to give it a pro moniker.

        • Yes it doesn’t make sense to call it a Pro model with the Gemini Lake. The Chinse love to use the work pro in everything as you would have noticed…

  6. this look like an updated Chuwi Surbook/ Surbook Mini. the very same design and ports selection. if so, it will have that Surface Pro 4 screen then.
    Hope the price will be much lower than that Alldocube Knote X.

      I consider thsesa atom based laptop as netbooks
      to me they are just cheap, portable travel laptop
      So 12″ are enough, but they need to be piared with small bezels and a big battery
      a travel laptop is not the laptop you use on your counch at home

  10. I think 6GB is barely enough, 8GB is ok for light use, I wouldn’t buy anything with soldered-in RAM with less than 8 even for a spare cheap laptop. I’d want 16 in my main PC.

    • you cannot consider an atom based laptop Your main pc
      lot of ram for an atom based pc make sense only it’s a homeserver running a bunch of VMs 24/7
      but not a laptop
      if it were a core cpu…then you’ll have a point

    • Oh great looking forward to testing the new SoC, once they are out and more mainstream early next year. Never reviewed IP3 laptops or mini pc’s they don’t seem to be so widespread.

    • They will be too expensive and not worth it. When is the Gemini lake successor due I wonder?

    • i doubt we will see a high end cpu from the smaller manufacturers, the atoms and celerons are used extensively only because intel is practically giving them away especially the atoms.

  12. this is good.i think it will be just the laptop se coming with 8gb they spoke of. all good I will order one if it’s under $299 if not skip and look at an i3 laptop from Lenovo.
