Teclast X98 Plus Review Online, Battery life is back!

My Teclast X98 Plus review is now online. This new 9.7″ X5 Z8300 + 4GB Ram Retina tablet from Teclast, isn’t the most powerful when it comes to gaming. But it makes up for this delivering the best battery I’ve seen to date in a Chinese tablet. It’s possible to browse the web and watch movies for more than 8 hours on a single charge. Something I hadn’t seen on a tablet reviewed here until now. You should be able to get over 9 hours if you set flight mode on, lower the brightness and just watch movies.

It’s clear to me that Teclast’s goal with the X98 Plus wasn’t performance (Not with a Z8300 to start with) but to offer the best possible battery life we had been lacking on the new Cherry Trails up until now.

So for those after a 4:3 tablet good for light tasks and don’t plan to game much this tablet is definitely worth a look. If you want the best Atom 9.7″ gaming performance and dual boot, the Teclast X98 Pro is still the best option even with its limited battery life and heat.

Be sure to check out my Teclast X98 Plus review here.

Hopefully, Teclast will release this tablet with 4G/3G and dual boot soon.

  1. did someone know where I will find replacement screen for x98 plus.
it fell down and some horizontal lines appear.

  2. Hello guys,
I bought the X98 plus just with WIN 10. Is there a Chance to install Android 5.1?
I mean I prefer a Dual Boot System. Thanks Gammlerlord

  3. As battery is essential to me, I’m going to go for the X98 Plus.

I was wondering if you can get it in french version (the whole OS not only the keyboard…)

When you unbox it can you choose the language of the OS ?

  4. Hi Chris,
could you solve the problem with the “4 port USB charging hub” mentioned in your X98 pro desktop video?
Is the X98 plus also affected?
I plan to use the X98 plus/pro as energy efficient desktop PC for office applications with external mouse, keyboard, HDD and screen. The absence of a charging hub would eliminate this use case and leave the Chuwi Hi10 as only alternative.

  5. Thanks for your work and reviews.

This X98 Plus seems a good balance between Power and Battery.
Let’s hope it should be overclocked as the X98 Air III….

What keyboard+Mousepad with support function will fit this one as the bezel is new in your experience please ?

  6. Chris,

Thanks for all the great info. I just pulled the trigger on this.

I’d like to get the biggest SDcard possible. Do you know if it supports 128GB and high speed read/writes? I know the X98 Pro had fast SD support. I’d like to get the SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB UHS-I/U3 SDXC in particular, if its high read/write speeds are supported: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NP63Y4K/

  7. Chris, is there any chance to could test out Xbox one game streaming to this device? I know the gpu isn’t the best or that but when playing Xbox through win 10 on my Mac there is no fan operation or noticeable impact on my device. Hoping that means something like this X98 could easily handle the load.

    • No, none of these Chinese tablets will utilize the xbox streaming. While it will work on the tablets, the fact that none of them have 5ghz wifi capability means its going to be almost pointless.

  8. I wonder would it handle pillars of eternity or similar isometric, big on the minimum ram, and perfect for a 9.7?

    That battery life is impressive!

    • I would love to see the tablet running Pillars, Divinity, Wasteland… this games doesnt need a lot of fps and I’m a big fan of the old school rpg.

    • Should handle Pillars of Eternity, Baldurs Gate etc. Might not be super fast, but the FPS should be enough to be playable. Good type of game to kill time on a long flight, boat or train trip.

Battery life is crazy good, I didn’t think it would go over 8 hours. I was going to take a print screen of my run time, but it shut down just before I could.

Just have it on now watching some episodes of the Last Kingdom in the background and 2 hours on so far, 77% battery left. Very good!

      • 1.Does the 260 nits apparent? Is it bright enough for home use? Watching shows? Does it look dull compared to X98 Pro \ Air 3G in real life?

2.I’m a bit worried about the flickering thing. It’s interesting to know why both say 60Hz in Windows but we can see in the camera that the Hz value is lower on the Plus.

        • No, it looks as bright as my Air 3G. And 100% is too bright for me indoors. Retina stripping on the Pro at 100%. The Pro is a step up from all the versions. Teclast did increase it on the X98 Pro for some reason.

No flickering in person, only on camera. Not sure why.

      • That’s pretty awesome. Good news for people that use their tablet for work for sure, or are heavy users.

  9. Thanks!

*Missing “Plus” in the link at the end of the article.

    • Corrected, thanks for pointing it out.

      • Hey Cris,

It seems like Teclast is improving with each new release!
        Some quick questions;
Did you upgrade to the new Bios you mentioned a couple days ago?
Do you think they might release a Dual OS Bios for this model?
Have you heard or gotten any feedback on the X16 Pro?

  10. thanks for the review. seems like an overall good tablet for non-gamers.
