Now Shipping: Chuwi Hi12 Dual OS & Chuwi Hi8 Pro Dual Boot

Banggood is now shipping the dual boot version of the Chuwi Hi12, mine just shipped and I received an email confirmation today with tracking details. So I’ll have it in hopefully 2 weeks to review the Android Rom and performance of the Hi12. You can read my Windows Chuwi Hi12 Review here. No idea if this model will have stylus support, but I’m crossing my fingers it does. Unless there is a Chuwi Hi12 Stylus Dual OS version still to come?

Chuwi Hi12 order

Chuwi Hi12 Dual Boot listing: http://www.banggood.com/Original-Box-Chuwi-Hi12-Intel-Z8300-Quad-Core-1_84GHz-12-Inch-Windows-10-Tablet-p-1042065.html There is a coupon in the page ” 60ac21 ” that gives $40 off.

And the “Fixed” dual OS version of the Chuwi Hi8 Pro is now shipping. I haven’t ordered one, because I have the first batch problematic model that’s sitting in a box. But Banggood customer service did say this is the fixed model as they never sold the problematic version that should have never been released (Shame on Chuwi)

Chuwi Hi8 Pro listing: http://www.banggood.com/Chuwi-HI8-Pro-32GB-Intel-Z8300-Quad-Core-1_84GHz-8-Inch-Dual-OS-Tablet-p-1010313.html

  1. Dual boot HI12 GPU memory clock is 533MHZ and windows HI12 GPU is 800MHZ..
I have the dual boot hi12 and I want to change clock from 533 to 800.
    Could you check it?

  3. dear chris,
are you about to receive your dual boot hi12?
    what is the tracking saying?

    thanks

    • It just arrived into Netherlands post hub, so should be next week. But I will likely miss it as I’m way for a week in the UK.

      • enjoy your british time!

I hope you will have no custom to pay since your hi12 will arrive when you’re out!!

  4. Which is better chuwi hi12 or Teclast Tbook11

    • Chuwi Hi12, better screen, full sized USB ports and better battery life.

  5. G’day Chris

Do you think the Chuwi Hi8 Pro is worth getting over the Chuwi Vi8 Plus? Is the extra resolution worth it if I was only to use this tablet for web browsing/casual gaming etc? Or would the extra battery life and responsiveness (I’m assuming) of having the lower resolution be better?

    Cheers

  6. Does the Hi8 Pro Dual-Boot finally come with 64bit Windows or is it still limited to 32bit because of UEFI Bootloader?

  7. Hi Chris, I ordered the tablet (and some other stuffs in one packet) from the shop you mentioned in China. It was sent on 23.3.16 from there via NL post. I keep tracking the packet and since 29.3.16 until now, it says that the items is being processed by the Custom. Do you have such an experience like this? How long it will take until I receive it? Can you tell me what should I do? I live in Berlin. Danke im voraus.

    • Erstmal nichts.

    • Normally, when I see that myself it’s delivered to be a few days later. Unless German customs have gotten hold of it.

  8. For those who have Chuwi Hi12, can you comment on this question please:

Is it possible to boot using an external drive via the USB ports? In other words, if I connect a bootable drive to one of its usb ports, which may have another Windows version or even a Linux distribution, can it boot into that?

    Thanks!

  9. Oy, still waiting for my tablet from banggood I ordered 3/6…then this is released.

Tracking number still shows “Origin Post is Preparing Shipment “

    • one month already, not ship out? unbelievable

    • I heard that the device is in high demand and there are not that many in stock as yet. They should start shipping out in a few weeks though.

    • I ordered my W10 Hi12 14th March and it’s just sitting getting its first charge now having arrived this morning. That was to the UK.

FWIW the Banggood listings say the new dual OS version has stylus support, but what the hell, isn’t that always the way with technology?

  10. I was waiting for the Dual OS version but after reading all the problems with Chuwi tablets maybe I’ll wait for other brand to sell a similar tablet .
I wouldn’t mind paying 300 € if the quality control is better than Chuwi’s.

    • I’m doing exactly the same. Too afraid to have a brick coming from china…

      • do not forget that one can return the brick if disappointed.

        • Do not forget that you have to pay for shipping and customs back to China if you choose to do so.

          • do not tell me that you care about the 10 Euros shipping fee.
As far as I know, one do not need to pay customs since shenzhen custom has more important stuffs to do.

        • 10 $ shipping… you means 25$… And custommis not a myth. Not in europe. You end up with a 60$ supplement for the tablet + 2 month waiting in the hope it doesn’t get lost in manufacturer or reseller depot.
According to chuwi, you cannot use the tablet while it is charging. Who want a tablet you cannot use while charging ?

          • fair enough,
I will give a full review of the Tablet on its performance on computation and CAD modeling.
            if disappointing, return it.

          • Mine is sitting charging and I can use it fine.

        • CAD use? The Atom chips aren’t really powerful enough for it. Core M would be better suited for CAD.

          • Thanks Chris, Anyway, I will do such a test and compare with my iDELL E7450 and Marcbook pro.

  11. i was nearly buying it. Was waiting for dual boot since february. Just before i pull the trigger i saw the advertise on the banggood site for the x98 plus. After coupon, got it for just 160€.

When I saw the issue in the chuwi forum about the tablet i said to myself i have been lucky. This tablet seems to be just a plain piece of garbage.

My advice : stay away from anything chinese except Teclast and cube.

    • All of these tablets can have issues, even the X98 Plus. It’s not perfect, but a nice 4:3 tablet. Just a matter of luck if you get a good unit or not, more so with Chuwi I guess.

  12. I’m looking forward to see if the copper plate hack can make the difference on Atom based tablets too

    • It does lower temps on the Atom’s a good 20 degrees too on max temps. Sight performance bump. But there is only so much a 2W Atom can do.

  13. curious that Chuwi’s website for the Hi12 still only lists Windows 10 as the OS. No mention of dual boot and no images with Android.

  14. see this one, Chuwi Hi12 is not recommended due to the poor building quality, noisy audio and huge gap between the glass and LCD.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbXQOGWrbbE

I am waiting for my Chuwi Hi12

    • Oh wow, he got a lemon it seems. I agree with audio noise, I have some light hiss on my unit over the 3.5mm jack. But some users in the forum reported no noise on theirs. Guess it depends on the batch?

And the gap in the display I would call this normal for a non-laminated display for this price range of cheap tablets its about 2mm. I wouldn’t call it huge, you should see the Teclast X80 Plus, that’s huge. I don’t have build quality issues on my one and my wireless works really well. It can be a bit of a lottery these tablets.

Also, see my full review: http://techtablets.com/chuwi-hi12/review/

On the plus side, his unit has way better thermals than mine. His never went over 60 degrees, that is excellent for an Atom X5 Z8300.I should have my second unit in 2 weeks so I’ll see if the newest batch have a lower build quality.

      • Hi Chris,
thanks a lot for the reply and explanation.
I am still waiting for my Chuwi Hi12, and will see if i am lucky to win the Chinese lottery.

    • I received mine today – screen not working. When I plug it in to an external monitor the touch works fine, but the screen is pitch black. Trying to find a solution for this now, I hope you’ll receive a working unit.

      • O, I am really sorry to hear that, and cross my fingers for your tablet.
in the worst case you have to open it and check the LCD connection or return it back to the reseller.
        Good luck.
Still waiting for my, 1 week passed.

  15. http://forum.banggood.com/forum-topic-155510.html

There they say, this version doesn’t support the stylus.

  16. are you sure chris this is the new HW revision?
on 4pda forum they say the dual boot version that it is selling it’s just the old version with the new bios.

    • new hi12 should have capacity screen.
No mention about it on the link you’ve posted

    • I have no idea if it is. Only that it’s factory dual boot according to BG.
