Update: Gearbest currently has a flash sale on this item and it’s listed for $191.99 Here’s my video review of it. Overall it’s a nice unit so much faster than other mini PC’s due to the SSD, it feels like a Core i3 more than an Atom with the SSD to me. The downside, the thermals and throttling if you game. Covered in the video review below. If there is interest I might jus...[Read More]
While I wait for DHL to drop my Mi Pad 2 Windows version off to me today, I noticed that GearBest has a Mi Pad 2 Dual Boot version listed. I see nothing about it on the Xiaomi Weibo, only Xiaomi Mi5 teasers for the 24th. So is it a leak that’s yet to be announced? It’s a 64GB model (16GB Dual OS wouldn’t work!) and it’s up for preorder at a rather pricey $285 ouch. I’...[Read More]
On Teclast.com there is a new image with the date 2.29 and Four years unique if my google translation is any good. Does this mean on the 29th will we see some new tablets announced? With Cube’s i9 Intel Skylake Core M3 already out in China, one can only assume Teclast must have their own Core M model up their sleeves. Maybe a new Atom Z8X50 powered tablet since Z8500 supplies must be low now...[Read More]
So I decided to create a full video review of the Chuwi Hi12. Also included in this one is a size, screen and sound comparison test versus the Chuwi Hi10, Teclast X98 Air III and Surface Pro 4 which might be of interest. I’ve also (finally) received my Chuwi Hi8 Pro. Unboxing clip of that to follow tomorrow.
A two new deals have popped up online, while most other retailers have put the price of the recently review Chuwi Hi12 up to $279 and even $299. Gearbest has lowered their price to $246 for a limited time for the black and grey version. The white and gold version is $249 just a few dollars more. And the Cube i9, the first Chinese Skylake Core M3-6Y30 12″ tablet with kickstand has been droppe...[Read More]

4k Android media players are getting cheap and better by the day it seems and Gearbest has a deal on the Z68 4k media player. It’s running 64bit Android 5.1 with KODI, supports HDMI 2.0 spec so you get full 4k 60 fps output. I can decode h.265 and has dual band wireless with 1-gigabit ethernet. It even has SPDIF audio out and an included remote. The CPU is a 64bit quad core RK3368, it has 2...[Read More]
Just finished my Chuwi Hi12 Review, if you’re thinking about this model I recommend you have a good look over the review and the included hands-on videos. Being an Atom X5 Z8300 with 4GB of RAM we know it’s no beast, but it performs quite well for the hardware it has. Good eMMC speeds no doubt help and overall I’ve enjoyed using and reviewing this tablet over the last eight days....[Read More]
Low-end tablets are improving each year in leaps and bounds. And now that the Samsung PLS panel used in the Surface Pro 3 is no longer exclusive or in fact needed by Microsoft, Chinese manufacturers now have the new larger 3:2 ratio screen to base their tablet builds around. Chuwi is the first the get their has on this panel and give us what that they think an Atom 12″ 3:2 tablet should be. ...[Read More]
Voyo’s vBook v3 is a larger version of the Onda oBook 11 I reviewed. Unfortunately, it shares the same issues. The screen high pitch whine noise, USB 3 port issues and a new one. Trouble waking from sleep. While the price wasn’t bad at $232 (Was on special offer, plus some rather expensive postage) I don’t think it’s worth it unless Voyo fix these issues. Sure the build is ...[Read More]
After my unboxing and first hands on with the Chuwi Hi12 I felt the screen brightness just wasn’t enough on the 2160 x 1440 Samsung PLS panel, nothing like how I remembered it to be on my Surface Pro 3. Luckily the brightness being dimmed a little was due to Intel’s graphics power saving settings. Disabling it pushes the max brightness now to just over 302 cd/m2 which is better. I also...[Read More]
