Possibly one of the poorest tablets I have yet to review, the Onda v820w CH. Its review is now finally online. It took me far too long to finish this review because it was just plain painful to finish.
It’s online and the first X5 Z8300 I have reviewed isn’t any faster than an Atom Z3735F! But I think and hope it’s down to Onda’s poor optimization.
I clearly see why Onda never replies to my review unit emails, they don’t want reviews outside of China as it will affect their international sales. My last three No, in fact all of the Onda’s I have reviewed so far have been so average, the v116w was literally falling to bits on me, the v919 Air 3G was average and the v919 3G Core M a complete waste of a good Core M 5Y10 and retina screen. So best keep away from this brand.
My eight-inch tablet hopes rest with Cube’s iwork8 Ultimate, Teclast’s X80 Plus/Pro model’s and Chuwi’s Hi8 Pro. Surely those tablets offer higher quality and not a step backwards in terms of performance from the previous Atom generation?
Check out my review here: Onda v820w CH Review. Be sure to see the good and bad points at the bottom of the page, it’s a doozy.

Hi everybody.
I’m new in this world of tablet-pc. I have an Onda V820W CH with Windows 10, in chinese, but with some translation pack to spanish. Now I tried to back to factory system and configs from Factory Default button in Windows 10, but now the system is at 64% and reboots in loop at this point.
I haven’t done anything strange, only back to default values.
Also I tried to get the lastest version/drivers from http://www.onda.cn, but I can’ download from these site because ask for a chinese phone to register in “baidu” downloads page.
Anyone can help me please? Thanks
Someone could upload them to another server !!!!

Hello Chris,
how is the speaker comparison between Onda v820w CH and the Chuwi Hi8?
Which one is louder and the sound quality?
Thank you very much

All cherry trail tablets are overheating it seems. I don’t think it is manufacturers’ fault. Cherry trail(at least current ones) is a big failure.
Chris G
I tend to agree, I don’t see Cherry Trail as a huge success. Sure we got the promised graphics boost from Intel, but at the cost of battery life and much more heat. Maybe this is why Intel are phasing out the current Z8X00’s with the Z8X50’s(See this post http://techtablets.com/2015/11/intel-to-phase-out-current-atom-cherry-trail-series-with-slightly-faster-refresh/)
X5 Z8300 seems no better than the Z3735F, at least in my own tests. But the Teclast X98 Pro, on the other hand does have quite a nice boost on the GPU and even CPU side. Just that heat and battery life…

It seems that Onda did a good tablet with the V975W, and then their subsequent tablets were losing quality with each new one, being each tablet worse than previous one. Fortunately, there are a lot more brands doing the things good, like Cube, Chuwi, Teclast, etc…
Chris G
The Onda v975w, that was my first retina Atom Bay Trail, you’re right it was okay. The V919 Air 3G was okay, the rest have been bad since then.
Gal
It may be rubbish, but it is powered by the Z8300 which makes me hesitate when considering the Hi10. Optimization or not, it means that we can expect the Hi10 to perform approximately like the v820w .
Chris G
I’m not worried just yet, I’ve seen Pipo have poor GPU performance on the Z3735F (Pipo W3F) where others made the exact same chipset run about 20% faster. So I hope it’s just Onda have it poorly optimized in this v820w. If not, the Z8300 isn’t much better, unless the Hi10 has great battery life.
I think the main issue is the single channel ram is killing the potential of the GPU, Chuwi might have been better of going with the X5 Z8500 and 4GB of Ram in a dual channel set up.

What a surprise an Onda tablet that is rubbish, shocker! It seems each tablet they release is worse than the previous one. As much as I hate mine, the build quality and condition after 2 years is perfect; the rom is the major issue and it seems their build quality now matches their software! I just hope people read these reviews and purchase other brands instead, otherwise they are going to think all Chinese tablets are bad.

Chris, I bought cube i7 stylusm, operated with win10 two weeks ago after reading your review on it. I like the stylus very much as the comment you gave. Can the tablet be further modified to dual boot system – win10 and android. Thanks
Chris G
No dual boot for that one, glad you like it. It’s one of the best the i7 Stylus for the price.
Rob
Hi Chris, the Onda V919 core m was dual boot is that correct? If the worst tablet manufacturer on the planet can port android to it why can’t others? Also would it be possible to port the android ROM onto say the Teclast X2 pro and maybe improve upon it? I really want to buy a dual boot tablet in the 11.11 sale, I know that the X2 pro uses an android emulator (read some good things about it and seen a few videos where it seems quite smooth) probably better than my Onda V975m. I’m really not sure whether to go with the X2 pro, the X98 dual boot or the Cube i7 stylus (and use an android emulator ). If I were to use an emulator what would you recommend between the teclast and the cube?
I”m not a heavy gamer, use is mainly for videos/media and general web browsing. I like a large screen and full sized keyboard dock. So hard to decide.
Rob
Or the Teclast X16 pro. Just hard to justify paying the same for a cherry trail as a core m.

G’day Chris,
So once again Onda have produced a great-performing tablet, then shot themselves in the foot with crap build quality. Definitely a pattern emerging, and I for one won’t even be looking at buying an Onda until I hear from you that they have got their act together with regards to build quality. Pity, because I loved the specs of the V116w — Onda, I hope that you are reading these reviews and get it together!
Chris G
Hi Terry, they are just going for bad to worse. I remember the v116w I managed to give it a little twist and the back cover came off! That’s why I did a video of the internals as it just fell apart on me. The rear of the v116w was a smudge and fingerprint nightmare. If I ever review another Onda, it would be the oBook11, lucky for us I don’t think it’s even made by them but a ODM as Voyo has the same machine with a slightly different config.
