Chuwi HiBook Pro With 2560 x 1600 OGS Screen (Updated)

Chuwi HiBook Pro With 2560 x 1600 OGS Screen (Updated)

Update 18th, Not just a new screen: The battery capacity has increased from 6800 mAH to 8000 mAH. Not doubt to counter that 2560 x 1600 display which has to drive more pixels which consumes more power.

Details have leaked out on Taobao / Tmall now about an updated Chuwi HiBook. It’s a HiBook with a better screen, and that’s it. Called the HiBook Pro, the 1920 x 1200 screen has been replaced with a 299 PPI 2560 x 1600 resolution OGS (One Glass Solution) panel which means it’s going to be fully laminated and will have around 350 cd/m2 of brightness.

Sadly the Z8300 remains. I hope the USB ports on the dock have been fixed and will power 2.5″ external HDD’s. My HiBook won’t power any drives. Only from the Type-C port at USB 2.0 Speeds…

  1. I bought one from aliexpress with docking keyboard for $251.
    the build quality is premium.
    the screen is just awesome.
    it’s head turner for sure.
quite fast with no lag at all

    • Yes the screen is good isn’t it, maybe the best I’ve seen, looks as sharp as my Surface Pro 4’s. Definitely the best on a Chinese tablet.

  2. Lemme say it.
Actually, more pixels doesnt mean more power consuption. Say, you had bigger pixels and now have number of smaller pixels per square inch, whatever. Your display size didnt change either. Display led has same space it needs to light as it had. CPU power consumption doesnt change alot too, even if it does, display eats 50+% of power from tablet, so cpu ppwer consuption changes are really insignificant to change battery life significantly. It is well known myth, though.

    • Yes, but the GPU has to work harder and consume more power to drive all those pixels.

  3. I meant BangGood.. 🙂

  4. On Gearbest you can get it for free if you’re lucky! http://deals.banggood.com/deals/edm/topic/HiBookpro0818.html?utmid=963

  5. have you already checked the screen? can you compare to normal hibook?

  6. Any more word on the HiBook Pro? I’ve been wanting a dual-boot tablet with a laminated screen and a Transformer-style keyboard.

    • I’m still waiting for the apparently second batch. The first batch has some slowness due to drivers or something. No idea on when I will get it, it has been ordered at Bangood, they are waiting on new stock.

  7. Will there be a Chuwi Hi12 Pro?

    • Not sure, I hope so. Would love to see it with 5Y10 or 6Y30 Core M.

  8. Hi, Chris,
Vido will release an 12 inch, Z8700 tablet, named W12pro,
12.2 inch IPS, OGS fully laminated screen,
    1920*1080;
    4GB LPDDR3 RAM,128GB SSD,
    5GHz WiFi,bluetooth 4.0,
    5、12V-2A,8000mAh,
    Type-C/USB 3.0,
    2M/5M pixel camera,

    Looks pretty good

  9. I cannot understand why so many manufacturers drain resolution instead of brightness or contrast or any other tablet spec, especially it is a budget product. 2560 x 1600 will kill Android as you cannot change native resolution. BTW if you want to play anything in Win10 with X5 8300 you have to reduce resolution to HD.
I like ASUS Transformer T100HA idea with HD (only) screen but 500+ nits of brightness.

Instead this 2K they should install 8500 or 8700 SoC, that would be significant difference.

    • I have a teclast with nearly the same resolution and x8300, and no issue. I think it’s more about software implementation than hardware.

  10. How would windows scale on this resolution? I can only imagine trying to hit 1 out of 10 tabs in chrome.

  11. speed of wifi? if its slow its a no go : (

  12. Would you recommend this tablet over other similar priced options, such as Chuwi Hi 12?

    • Well hard to say, if it has fixed USB dock ports and better wifi speeds maybe. The screen should be very decent.

    • None of them if they are Chuwi. Go for Teclast. Better quality control, less worry about bad hardware. With the dual boot hi12, it is now a problem of battery. The tablet shut down by itself when there is 20%-40% battery left, with no apparent reason except the fact a lambda software is running. Before that, with the windows version, it was a [supposedly] bios problem. The tablet simply didn’t charge anymore or boot. The same with Hi8.

You can still have an issue with teclast, but it’s far more rare.

      Chuwi sucks.

  13. Hi Chris
Any word on the obook 12?

    • Still waiting for it to ship 🙁 Been months since I ordered it. If it’s too long I’ll cancel it.

  14. with stylus ?

  15. for a second I thought it had HI12 screen =(

  16. Any word on pricing?
Will you be getting one for review?
