Some pleasant surprises with the revised 2018 model of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13.3. I thought it was a simple case of a new CPU and paint job, seems there are a few other tweaks to this latest edition and more refinement. So we now have the much more powerful Kaby Lake R CPU’s in the 13-inch model. Intel’s 8th Gen Core i5 8250U and i7 8550U, these CPU’s have doubled their cor...[Read More]
I was hoping for a completely new design similar to the XPS line from Dell, but here it is the 2nd refresh of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13 first released in 2016. The 2017’s models i5 7200U and i7 7500U have been swapped out and replaced with the much faster i5 8250U and i7 8550U, performance is around 40% better if not more thanks, double the cores (now quad-core). These are the same CPU...[Read More]
One of the cons listed in my review of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro was the NVMe SSD speed was limited and capped to PCIe x 2 speeds and not x 4 which it should be, well thanks to Ferdinánd for letting me know about this bios fix that will correct the PCIe lane speed to be x4 speed. A user on the Xiaomi forums has posted a bios update that corrects this SSD speed limit and set the port to the correc...[Read More]
I’ve already reviewed the i5 8250U 8GB model of the Mi Notebook Pro, the RAM limit of 8GB (nonupgradeable) made me sell it and buy this model. The i5 model came out a good month before the most powerful version which is now out powered by an Intel Core i7 8550U quad-core CPU, the Nvidia MX150 GPU remains & 16GB of RAM. The only change to the model is the faster CPU and double the RAM whi...[Read More]
I have the most powerful version of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro on the way, the 8th gen Intel Core i7 8550U model with 16GB of RAM. It should be here next week, so look for some videos on how to undervolt and tweak this model like I did with the i5 8550U model next week. Some benchmarks and further tests plus I’ll also revisit some of those games I tested and see how they run on this i7 mode...[Read More]
There are plenty of cheap action cameras, ones that shot 4k that are often just up scaled 1440p or even 1080p footage. So you get what you pay for. And there is this here, the Xiaomi Mijia 4k action camera that shoots native 4k and sells for around $90. The Mijia 4k shoots 4k and 30 fps and a very high (for action cams) 60 Mbps on the superfine quality setting. The 4k image quality for the price i...[Read More]
Intel’s Xtreme Tuning Utility is a great tool for overclocking CPU’s, while we can’t overclock the U series of CPU’s what we can do using this application of Intel’s is increase the power limits. Doing this on the 8th Gen Intel Core i5 8250U gives us huge gains up to 29% when testing with Cinebench R15 and encoding 4k video using Adobe Premiere Pro.so much so we can g...[Read More]
Update 7th Oct: The spare slot will also take NVMe SSD’s (Samsung 960 Evo tested) so it’s a combo M2 SATA3/PCIE slot. Both slots are reported as PCie x 4 by Samsung’s magician tool. Yet the read rates are slower than expected (writes are full speed) Maybe a driver issue? Only the first type-c port is full USB 3.1 spec with data, charging and video out the other one is only data. ...[Read More]
Xiaomi’s latest in the Mi Notebook line is the Intel 8th Gen powered 15.6″ Mi Notebook Pro model. It’s now up for order for $899 (with coupon MIBOOKPRO) this is around the same price I first paid for my 13.3″ 2017 refreshed model with the i5 6200U. This quad-core CPU should be a nice step up in terms of CPU power, the GPU, remains the Nvidia MX150 with 2GB of DDR5 RAM it...[Read More]

I’ve had the Mi Notebook Air 13 revised 2017 edition for a week now. If you weren’t aware, Xiaomi upgraded it to the latest CPU and GPU. It now sports the Kaby Lake series of CPU’s, either an i5 7200U or i7 7500U (i7 model not out yet) and Nvidia MX150 Pascal GPU with 2GB DDR5 RAM, the GPU is basically the Nvidia 1030. And then a ELAN fingerprint reader now located in the touchpa...[Read More]
