Teclast X98 Air 3G / Air II Android 5.0 Firmware released

Teclast X98 Air 3G / Air II Android 5.0 Firmware released

Teclast have just recently added Air 3G and Air II Android 5.0 dual boot firmwares for users to download via their forum. (Which is in Chinese) This is a beta trail of the firmware, so I can only imagine new Air II and Air 3G’s to start shipping from the factory in a few weeks with Android 5.0, wait for that announcement.

In the meantime if you are keen to flash your own Air 3G or Air II over to Android 5.0 and Windows 8.1 dual boot, visit the links below. Use Chrome to translate the page or your own translator. It would seem that a recent update for the Air 3G let’s users flash just the Android files and leaves your Windows installation untouched. That’s of course if you have the stock partitioning.

I’ll see if I can download the files and mirror them here on the server.

Android 5.0 Lolipop update for Teclast Air 3G: Link

Flash at your own risk, If I can get this to work on my Air 3G I’ll post up a how to.

  1. I would like a bin file to use with UpdateIFWI that will give me Android 5 on an X98 Air3G, no Windows partition. I tried one that I thought was for Android 5, but About Tablet still says 4.4.4

  2. The rom by Mirek190 on XDA is only for air 3g, is there a good lollipop rom out there for the X98 Air 2 ?

  3. Hi Chris
First Let me congratulate you and your guys for helping us.
I have a problem regarding boot failure in both OS after a recent update(Thursday 11th June i suppose)
Windows failed to boot and displays this message in black and gray color
    Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
    2. Choose your language settings, and then click Next
    3. Click Repair your computer
If you do not have this disc, contact your system admin or computer manufacturer for assistance
    File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
    Status: 0x0000185
Info: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.

In Andorid, when i tried to start it, it displayed your tablet is UPGRADING and after some time, it behave strangely and displayed this list
Use Vol+/- to select and press power button
    Update via ADB
    Reset to factory setting
    Wipe cache
I tried several times to switch between two OS but only to see these two Messages
Finally, I tried to wipe cache and Reset to factory setting but it settled to the same status.
I failed to boot either OS.

I do not have original boot cd/android ROM. I think it is the case with all customers as they are not provided with Original Boot Cd, product key etc.

I had no problems with the tablet until recent update. I have successfully activated MS Office by registering MS account, changed language from Chinese to English, and installed some of my own applications successfully and used it for few days. While my usage with windows 8.1, i tried to run dxdiag and found pending issues for signature from OEM (i.e., Teclast).

  4. Hi Chris, great blog and great tutorial. Recently bought the Teclast x98 64gb 3g on reputed seller on ali express, did a test on 2 apps Cpu z and phone tester specifically on the battery capacity as I feel I’m not getting the time on the tablet. Readings indicate that it’s only 4980 mAh instead of the claimed 8000mAh. Are these readings accurate or I’m getting something other than what’s claimed.

    • Same on my x98 c9j8, cpu-z cant read, but phone tester say 4980mha. I do not trust on the accuracy of these app, but my battery really suck.

  5. Hi @chris – Is there a Windows only BIOS for the Air II (HG9M)?

  6. Mirek190 has released his Lollipop ROM in Beta on XDA forum. I am running it now, it’s amazing. Everything works well. No major bug yet, although there are very little customization at the moment.

One thing that stands out is that its smooooooooooth.

    • Thanks for the message. I haven’t been upto date with the XDA thread. But I’ll download it and mirror it here for others to download. So it’s smooth? That’s good to hear, his Version 3.1 rom was the best I used on my X98.

      • Yeah I’ve been using the 3.1 rom up till this point. If I read it right, V2 of Mirek190’s Lollipop will be pushed out soon, and it’ll have a lot of performance improvement over the current V1 beta.

        • Hey guys, can you link to the web page for the instructions on how to flash 5.0? Do you have it dual booting with win8?

  7. A month later and we still haven’t seen a stable version of Lollipop released for all air 3G.

  8. Hello, did u manage to update your tablet to lollipop? I’m wanting too but I don’t understand there update process? Also can’t see any download links! Is there not a way to download the ROM and use the update app already on the tablet?? Please can u help as I don’t want to brick my tablet!! Thank you.

  9. Hi guys,
Just bought c5j6 x98 Air 3g model. Antutu score above 33k. ROM 64 GB got splitted like this: 16 for 4.4.4 and 33 GB for win 8.1. These are available memory after installing programs. I couldn’t find encryption option in android os. Any help? Looking forward for standard rom updates for teclast think tank.

  10. Chrome won’t translate the links to English! It’s a brave man that’s going to try doing this on initiative!

  11. I have the x98 air 3g 64GB C5J6, also the mirek rom wont work?

    • Not without a partition.tbl edit for the the larger 64gb emmc.

  12. can you make a tutorial?
my tablet fails to update at this moment

    • If I get time, have you made sure your using the right one, 32GB version or 64GB version?

  13. We absolutely love your blog and find most of your post’s to be exactly what
I’m looking for. Do you offer guest writers to write content for you?

I wouldn’t mind composing a post or elaborating on most of the subjects you write with regards to here.
    Again, awesome site!

  14. The air II version works pretty smooth actually, was able to flash it on my HG8N. THere was an issue with the cpu not always clocking properly (getting stuck at 476mhz) but other times it worked fine.

But I now have bricked my tablet after flashing the HG8M bios, I thought I read it would be safe… Guess not. Not starting at all anymore, holding power button does nothing.

Is there any HG8N bios available anywhere? The teclast files don’t seem to contain it :/

  15. Hi Chris.
Could you please make a video review with Lollipop? I flashed my tablet with mirek rom. Do you think the Lollipop version better than mirek? Or is it worth give a try to Lollipop now? Thanks!

    • It’s still a beta rom, I’ll see if i can get the files and flash it.

      • Looking forward to your feedback on the lollipop!

      • Would really appreciate a tutorial on how to flash it to Android L for this tablet. Looking forward to it!

  16. Problem is things continue to be in Chinese, both program and tutorial.

Will there ever be an international release? Or they do not care at all for the West Market?

    • You just change it from Chinese to English. I don’t think they will have worldwide releases of their tablets at this point in time, I’m sure they would love to break out into the west, but they are pretty much and unknown against some big brands we all know.
