Chuwi Hi8 with 1920 x 1200 and Atom Z3736F

Chuwi Hi8 with 1920 x 1200 and Atom Z3736F

Our review is now online of the Hi8, http://techtablets.com/chuwi-hi8/review/

Update 15th June: It’s now official on Chuwi’s website and has been announced on their Weibo. I will be reviewing this one, and should have one in a week or two. And hope to compare it to the Vi8 Ultra/Ultimate edition.

Gearbest have lowered their price even further, it’s now just $92.87 without special coupons. But the deal expires in 6 days.

9th of June: Maybe forget the recently released Chuwi Vi8 Ultimate edition, Chuwi have another tablet with the exact same specs as that one. However instead of that 1280 x 800 resolution screen we have a 1920 x 1200 one. Which will be very sharp indeed on an 8 inch tablet.

The only downside I see is the lack of HDMI, it’s a pre order at the moment on selling for $96 with the discount Coupon CHI8 here. The funny thing is there is no mention of this tablet yet on Chuwi’s website.

  1. Has anybody tried those “ultrathin bluetooth keyboard” cases like this?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Universal-Ultra-Thin-7-7-85-7-9-Tablet-Bluetooth-Touch-Keyboard-Cover-Case-/391154121969?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item5b129a3cf1

Listed on AliExpress as for the Hi8, but they’re actually generic and half the price on eBay.

  2. Still nothing from Gearbest. I notice Banggood has it In Stock, ships in 1-3 business days.

It’s now 7 business days since Gearbest processed my payment, and they advised it would be shipped out in 3-5 business days.

I logged a support ticket 24 hours ago and still no response. Can’t say I’m super impressed as yet…

    • I received the gearbest notification today, as they finally sent it (after 5 business days).

Chris has already received it apparently (it really didn’t take many time to come to his home).

  3. I’m having a really bad go with GearBest at this moment. First I have to pay an extra additional amount with shipping by DHL (remote area, I live in one of the four largest cities in The Netherlands), took a week to get that answer. Today I got the “not in stock” from them. Will take a week to have them in stock. Well probably the first and last time buying at GearBest.

  4. C’mon GearBest… ship my Hi8! ehhh… fingers crossed early this week.

    • None of them have shipped yet, I was thinking mine had but it was the Vi8 Ultimate. No stock yet, let me know if yours ships and I’ll do the same if it goes out next week. It should be in the order of first in, first shipped out.

  5. Hi Chris,

I just wondering if you know ezpad mini2. I just found it on some chinese sites. It has similar specs to hi8 except it has 64gb, mini HDMI but with lower spec of bay-trail? – priced for RMB699

    • It looks ago, I see it has just come out. Never heard of Jumper until now. Tinydeal have it listed as a preorder, but it’s expensive.

      • Yeah it did look a bit premium to me with 5.7mm thickness and only 370g weight. I still do not see anything nicer then the Teclast specs, it just seems like the device to beat.

  6. Hi Chris! This tablet looks really nice for the price but what do you think about its battery life? The battery capacity is 4000mAh or 5000mAh? Because depending on where you check they say one or the other, even on the chuwi website apear both capacities checking the specs or de description. 5000mAh I think would be okay, but still would probably have less battery life than the Vi8 because of the faster processor and the high resolution screen, but 4000mAh I think is too little.

    • If it;s 4000mah, around 4-5 hours and if it’s 5000mAH which I think it should be, then 5-6 hours. I’ll test it out for sure once I get mine.

  7. Do you think we will be seeing this price in the near future or do you think it will be priced around $120-130 (as the Vi8 Ultimate) after this special pre-order discount?
I’m thinking I have to put in an order now before June 20’th and that is before you can get your hands on one and review it.

And of course I will be using your shared link for purchase.

    • Hi Henrik, I have ordered it and I hope it will be sent via DHL soon. But I don’t see it arriving until the 22nd or later. Unless it does ship out in the next few days (doubtful as nowhere as stock).

I don’t think the price will stay this low, because Chuwi would have to price it higher than the Vi8 Ultimate due to the better res screen. I think it’s just a one off intro price and will increase.

      • Saw your updated post.
For $93 its a steal and for that price you can live with the fact that it does not have HDMI out.
I used your link and I have placed an order.

Thanks for introducing me to GearBest by the way!
I’ve used AliExpress and TinyDeal as my source for Chinese electronics but GearBest seems to have the better deals and they seem to do a lot of promotions and sales on specific items.
And the feedback is quick as well and you don’t have the thing where its 200 different sellers of the same item but 150 of them are scams.

And also thanks for your great work!
Can’t wait to see where you will take your channel and the community.
Hoping to see like Google Hangout sessions in the future and that the forum will really grow into a great source of information and support for users of all kind of Chinese devices.

        • Yeah gearbest is a good website, despite the fact they sent my two last orders by surface mail instead of airmail (don’t chose postNL…).

And thank you Chris for this deal, I just bought one to compare it to my vi8 dual boot (I actually bought my vi8 and the v919 I’ve sold because of your videos).

          Twist’

          • Really? So you requested PostNL, which is what I use when not using DHL for review tablets I want in a hurry, they sent it via land? So it’s better just to leave it at standard post then? I like the look of Gearbest and they have the best prices so far, but if their shipping department is bad, I will have to skip them.

You sold the V919? I sold mine to, average tablet and bad battery life. Onda for me aren’t very good when it comes to build qaulity.

          • They sent these two small packages (one with a BT mouse and some adaptors, the other with a chuwi vi8 case and a tiny BT keyboard) by surface mail, but I didn’t experience that kind of problems in the past (8 older orders, including a Chuwi vi8 and other electronic stuff) and I hope the packages will arrive at home before the 25 days estimated delay or I’ll open paypal disputes (don’t want to wait 4 months to get an uncomplete package while I payed for an airmail shipping).
I used the default shipping method for the Hi8 I ordered yesterday, hope they’ll send it by airmail.

I sold my v919 for two reasons:

            – I didn’t use it enough to keep it (I received the vi8 the same week after a huge sale on Gearbest and yes it’s more practical and portable)

            – I received a faulty one, because the wifi antenna on the plastic cover was missing (there was only the 3g antenna), so I had to stay really close to my Internet modem to get a Wifi signal… Not really great… So I sold it as faulty.

            Twist’

            • V919 is just an average tablet, it has a much smaller battery than the likes of the Teclast X98 Air 3G or the Cube i6. My Onda v975w battery cell was so bad, only 3 hours or so and the battery stats using HWinfo reported it had been cycled over 2000 times. Seems they used recycled batteries. My gearbest.com order shipped and it was sent via PostNL express so all good. About 10-15 days from China to Spain, which is about twice the speed of China Post and the likes.

          • why is any better than geekbuying? Can we hope any time (read EVER) to get Lollipop in these devices?

        • Around 82 euros for us, yes it’s a steal, I just hope there isn’t a bad build quality or something, but I will find out soon once I get my hands on it. I’m really sick and tired of Ali Express, the last three sellers have just screwed me around and I asked to cancel my last order on the Pipo W8, and the stupid seller has sent it, I told them a week ago. I ordered from Geekbuying that have stock.

Gearbest and Banggood, give you points to, so this is why I’m going to use them more and Ali Express less so I can put the points towards other talbets I will be buying sooner or later for the site.

I hope to improve things and I’m still learning and working towards better videos and more things. Google handouts sessions I will need to research that, if there is demand I will do it.

My main goal is honest reviews which is the reason I created the site, I got sick of seeing XYZ sites super bias reviews and not even mentioning things like audio jack buzz and dropped wireless connections etc. And I was tired of those horrible silent unboxing and hands on where the people don’t even speak and the videos are dark so you can’t even see the tablet that well. (Mostly resellers videos from China)

  8. it will be perfect if it is 64gb

  9. I’ve ordered one for review. So once it gets to me in two or so weeks, expect the usual videos and review for me 🙂

    • Can you write something about it when it arrive? thanks

      • Sure I will have videos when it arrived and a review up after a week or so of using and testing the tablet. I will have the Vi8 Ultimate edition to.
