Next Up: Teclast Air III And Surface Pro 4 M3

Today if DHL and FedEx deliver on time, I will have the new Teclast Air III, their budget retina slower Atom Z3735F Bay Trail. This model is dirt cheap at $130 for a retina 4:3 tablet and can be flashed to dual boot Windows and Android if you want that, Teclast did release the files to convert the Air III to Dual OS for this. So I might flash mine over to dual boot later on and write it up if there is interest.

And the Surface Pro 4, I got the entry level model, with the new 6th Gen Core M Skylake CPU. It’s fanless, as I hated the noise from my Surface Pro 3 i5, one of the reasons I sold it with it’s constant full on fan speed and heat. It’s good to have the latest Surface as I feel Microsoft’s Surface line has always set the standard in Windows tablets. And it’s good to use to gauge my Chinese tablet against the best. They will never match it of course, you’re talking about a premium tablet with a premium price tag against Chinese tablets like the X2 Pro or Cube i7 Stylus with price tags three times less.

It will be interesting to see if Cube and Teclast update their current Core M series with the new Skylake 6Y30 M3 next year. Both of these tablets will be featured more in the TT YouTube channel, so be sure to subscribe if you’re interested. The Air III will be the last Bay Trail tablet I will get. So I hope it’s a good one.

P.S I’m waiting on the Cube iwork11 (Cheaper X5 Z8300 version of the Cube i7 Stylus), Chuwi Hi8 Pro and Chuwi Hi10 to ship this week

Edit: Sorry I got mixed up, it’s only the cheaper 32GB Android version I have coming! (I’ve seen too many Chinese tablets and losing track of things)

  1. HI Chris,

Firstly great job with the site really enjoy the reviews. I’m very much interested in the review of this one as I’m looking for a new tablet and want to have windows as an option as well as my default android. My want list means that I’m stuck between a few tablets currently but I think the teclast x98 ??? or chuwi Hi10 are probably my most likely list. I’m looking at a budget around £125 and tablet will mainly be used for light web plus games for the children, occasional movie watching. Keep up the good work.

    • Just a query but are you just buying the Android version and then flashing to dual boot?? I assume that you need to aquire a MS license for that?

      • You will need an MS license for that, so it’s better to jsut get the 64GB dual OS model I think. Less hassle for sure!

  2. Btw Chris, please make a review of your own passively cooled Mini-PC with Iris graphics.

    Pretty please!

  3. kind of off topic, what’s your opinion about Z3535F vs Z8300 on internet browsing and office applications? In theory the Z8300 should be significant faster but without proper cooling like a on a tablet, is it worth pay a bit more for the Cherrytrail? thanks

    • I think also with proper cooling the Z8300 is not significantly faster…meaning you shouldn’t be really able to notice a difference in day-to-day use. Maybe a CPUBench program can measure some single digit % difference but you won’t be able to.

      • Probably the SSD built into your device make much much much more of a difference then the CPU.

    • Z3735F vs Z8300 would be about the same as seen in my Onda v820w CH review benchmarks. It was even slower than the Z3735F the Z8300. http://techtablets.com/onda-v820w-ch/review/

      • I am REALLY hoping that the Onda’s performance is an anomaly, perhaps just poor cooling on Onda’s part. I really hope the Z8300 ends up being a bit more powerful than the Z3735f

        • On paper it should be, I also hope Onda just messed up here.

made me REALLY interested in the new 6th gen Skylake Core-M.

When do you think will we see the first affordable Chinese tablets with the new Core-M ?

    • I’m definitely interested to see what my Skylake Surface Pro 4 can do, I’ll benchmark it and test it out myself on the YouTube channel. I think we will see Cube or Teclast updating their tablets to the Skylake 6Y30 next year.

  5. Teclast did release the files to convert the Air III to Dual OS for this. So I might flash mine over to dual boot later on.

Do you have a guide how to do this? What Android-Version does it offer?

Does Teclast update their Android-versions or will you be stuck with the initial version?

    • It’s Android 5.0 on the Air III.No guide yet I’m waiting for DHL to drop it off to me any minute now. Teclast do seem to slowly update roms on the popular models. Hopefully we will see an Android 6 release soon.

      • Hey Chris,

        I need your help

I’m shopping for a tablet and I want to take advantage of the 11.11 sales so dollar for dollar which 9.7″ or above Dual OS Tablet in your opinion is the best in build and performance?

Now if Teclast doesn’t make your cut, which one of their Dual OS Tablets of 9.7″ or above you’d be comfortable buying as a gift for someone?
