I’ve had a few emails, asking what tablets I have up and coming to review. Well, I have the following: Surface 3 – It will be used as a bench against new Atom Z8000 series when they arrive from China Remix – An interesting custom OS Android tablet with keyboard and kick stand Pipo W8, Cheapest Core M tablet from China Onda v116w Core M The Pipo W8 is not due to ship until the 15t...[Read More]
Onda kicked off a press event today and posted quite a bit on their new Core M 5Y10 powered tablet on Weibo. It’s called the Onda V116w Core M, luckly it’s not the same v116w just with a Core M I reviewed a couple of months back. Like the Cube i7, Pipo W8, Teclast X1 Pro 4G and many others to follow it’s got a 2.0Ghz Core M, 4GB’s of RAM, 64GB or 128GB sata3 ssd. But the mo...[Read More]
Teclast have just recently added Air 3G and Air II Android 5.0 dual boot firmwares for users to download via their forum. (Which is in Chinese) This is a beta trail of the firmware, so I can only imagine new Air II and Air 3G’s to start shipping from the factory in a few weeks with Android 5.0, wait for that announcement. In the meantime if you are keen to flash your own Air 3G or Air II ove...[Read More]
Our Cube i7 arrived from China and will go through all the usual benchmarks and gaming tests. The unboxing video is below. This is the cheaper $399 special offer priced 64GB version. Our unit came with Windows 8.1 Pro, but you can get it with Ubuntu if you want. I ordered the keyboard dock which was an additional $65, but well worth it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGTGckT9Qo0 My first impressi...[Read More]
An official press photo of the internals of the Telast X1 Pro 4G reveals the Core M 5Y10C’s heat spreader, motherboard and various other components inside this 12.2 inch Surface Pro 3 clone. Judging by the look of it mSata or M.2 slots in the tablet, both the modem and the 128GB are replaceable and upgradable if you wanted to swap the 128gb drive out for a larger 256GB or 512GB one. Opening ...[Read More]
The Pipo W3F and the Teclast X16HD 3G are to similar tablets, but which one is the better model, well it depends on your budget and what your looking for in a cheap tablet. I’ll list the pros and cons of each model against the other I discovered while using these tablets. Why choose the Pipo W3F over the Teclast X16HD? Pros: Cheaper than the X16HD at $180 Has a full sized USB 2.0 port Uses a...[Read More]
Our Teclast X16HD 3G arrived a few days ago for review. Here’s the unboxing video and a hands on look at Android and Windows on the system. The X16HD 3G is very similar to the X10HD 3G I reviewed a few months ago. They both sport the same 2.16 Ghz Z3736F Atom processor and have 64GB eMMC drives. So far I my first impressions are: Pros: Great build quality, slimier and more solid feeling in h...[Read More]
Another broken Play Store due to a miss configured build.prop from Teclast, sigh… They really should get someone to test if the Play Store works outside of China as this isn’t the first time. Here’s the fix, you’ll need root. Get that here in the X98 Air 3G Toolbox: Run 1_Toolbox.bat and then later use option “E” to root your X16HD File you’ll need: [wpfil...[Read More]
Teclast have released a new rom for the P98 4G, this rom fixes various issues including the black photos, Play store issue and sleep issues. [wpfilebase tag=list id=32 tpl=data-table pagenav=1 /] To flash the rom: Install the driver. Use the PDAnet_4150, this worked for me. Power off your P98 4G, making sure it has 50% battery or over. In the flash folder run 升级程序.exe Select the MTK_AllInOne_DA.bi...[Read More]
Yep the rumors of a smaller Surface were true, the Surface 3 and it looks like the Surface 3 Pro just a bit smaller without the Core i3/5/7. It will be one of the first tablets to use the new Atom X7 “Cherry Trail” Z8700. Think of the Z8700 as being the Z3995. It’s doing to start at $499 and $599 if you want the 4GB and 128GB ssd. What I can’t see to confirm is, if it’...[Read More]
A new Weibo post from Onda, they are going to unveil a Dual OS breakthrough. It looks like a new way to start up and switch OS’s and there is a sharedisk, so each OS can read and open files on the other. (To a limited extent) More on this tomorrow. I wonder if its a new Insyde bios update with switcher that is even faster than before. It’s certainly faster than Teclast and Pipo’s...[Read More]
Here a few videos of the PiPo W3F I currently have to review. Here is a short video testing the USB port speed, eMMC drive speed and the microsd card slot speed. Unfortunately it’s only a usb 2.0 port, but there are two, one full sized and the other micro. It would seem that some of the sellers on Ali Express are getting mixed up with the W3 that has usb 3.0. Some gaming on the PiPo W3F, as ...[Read More]
